And so the project begins:

Hi, and welcome to Project Elmer
circa 1990 Mini City automatic

This little mini was saved from its previous owner, after being neglected for seven years, well I say neglected it was just unused and never turned a wheel in all that time, and was open to the elements, and must say has faired rather well. On arrival to its new home a couple of hours were spent trying to get its little heart going, but was declared dead later that evening (only needs a new wiring loom to be honest) so the decision was made to convert it to manual transmission.
Early on, it was planned to make Elmer into a Mk1 lookalike with external hinges and Mk1 rear lights and grill, but with the new IVA test it has now been decided to do no body mods at all apart from the de-lip of the bonnet, the reason behind this....
well being a MK1 lookalike it may have called into question the identity of the mini, so best not to risk it, so I bring you:

The Patient: Project Elmer

Day One: 22/03/09

Today was just about evaluating the mini, see what it needed and give it a quick clean to remove years of grime...
not looking too bad just a few rust issues to sort out, but nothing major

Time spent on todays project:
Approx 2 hours
Total:   2 hours

Day Two: 23/03/09

Today was get rid of the engine and clear interior, nice steady day today, purchased the engine crane from ebay £120, and what a breeze that was.
Took my time removing items, as I wasn't sure what I would re-use, I found it easier to lift the body over the engine and subframe..... interior well that was a doddle

time spent on todays project:
Approx 6 hours
Total:   8 hours
